The middle-school years are important for the future success of academically gifted children, whose educational and developmental needs are special. At this age, boys need role models, mentors, and educational challenges to help them reach the high goals set by schools, teachers and parents. Unfortunately, circumstances associated with low family income often prevent boys from growing into or persisting as high-achieving students and leaders, and their potential often goes unnoticed and underdeveloped.
Founded in the summer of 2002, REACH (Recruiting Excellence in Academics for Catholic High Schools) serves middle school boys in the New York City area who are Catholic, who are academically gifted and have leadership potential and whose families have significant financial need. REACH admits students in the spring of their 5th grade year.
Designed as an educational and leadership program, REACH prepares students to compete for scholarships at Regis, as well as at other top Catholic high schools in New York City. Whether at Regis or elsewhere, REACH hopes that all of its participants develop into young men willing to serve as leaders in the Church, in the community, and in their profession. The program is an outstanding opportunity for boys to nurture their gifts of mind and spirit.
